Final design for mini html site

A very basic black and white design using both the image and the numbers as buttons to link to the next page/image. I am pleased with this because I like the way it looks if i had more time I would have done watermarks and changed the opacity of the numbers font so it is less harsh and distracts less from the images.

My mini HTML website

I have had a lot of trouble creating this website, I initially wanted to create a frameset which I did most of in class but would not work when I came to do it in my own time, this was very frustrating. I did not know why it was not working I changed all my images and resaved them into my root folder but it did not work. For my nvatigation I created some font in photoshop and made it into a jpeg so I could insert it into my web page and use the different numbers and buttons. The links would not work properly because when the button was selected a new internet window opened up with the image in and no navigation bar at the top.

This is what my navigation looked like, I am very disappointed I could not do a frameset I really needed some extra help with the dreamweaver softwear.

and I then did the two lines of navigation separately so they looked liked this;

As the text buttons is actually an image I could not individually select the different numbers, so I re did the navigation in photoshop by separately cropping and saving the individual numbers and then inserting them into the web page. This did not look as good as it was harder at align all of them up the same, even when I was using grids.
An example of this is

and when they were all together they looked like this (not good at all)

As you can see in this web page the image to the side of the navigation is not being found in the root folder, this image is my logo. Another problem I have to solve.

The same thing as happened on my splash page. It worked fine while I did it at college but something seems to have gone wrong in the root folder.

It is going to be easier to fix on that I am not doing a frameset I have just got a simple gallery while the image and/or text is selected and it is linked to the next page which appears in the same window. I do not have much time to complete this seeing as I really wanted to do a frameset.

First shoot

I have changed the text I am going to use. I am now using the line ‘Wednesdays child is full of woe’ from the poem ‘Mondays child’. I am only concentrating on Wednesdays child because it goes with the type of images I want to create for this project. I am thinking about creating a series for my final major project so this is a good way to start the ball rolling. I shot on black and white 1600 fuji Neopan film using a Canon SLR with a 24-105mm lens. The location was my house in the north laines, I used my own clothes to style the shoot. I wanted the images to be grainy and dark and I think I have achieved this. I used a few lamps to light the house because it was shot at night.

Intial Ideas

I didnt know whether to begin by looking for a narrative to illustrate with photographs or persue a photoshoot I have had in mind for while and find some appropriate narrative to accompany it. I started by looking into music and picking out songs I like but the problem I had with most of these was that the visual images that the songs conjure up are ones from the official music videos and it is very hard to think differently to how they have already been illustrated. I then looked into various other texts such as:the witches passage from Shakespeares Macbeth , Bunny and Yolanda’s conversation in the movie Pulp Fiction and the opening scene from the movie ‘Thirteen” . I really like all of these texts which I picked out but I found it hard to fit in 15 images around them.

I then decided to do something I am interested in at the moment which is the concept of youth and what it means and this goes really well with a song that I find quite emoitional because it makes me feel pretty depressed, the song is Forever Young by Jay-Z and Mr.Hudson, I am going to use this as my narrative for the 15 images.

My favourite photographer, Jolijn Sniders started the online magazine ILOVEFAKE and it has been the reason to why I have decided to persue my interest in meaning of youth.
